Where my Southeast Asia travels began
Malaysia was where it really began, back in August 2014. Kuala Lumpur immediately felt like three cities in one — Malay, Chinese, and Indian communities and cuisines woven through the same streets.
I didn't know it yet, but this trip would set the pattern for everything after: chase the food, talk to strangers, stay a little longer than planned. The food alone is worth the trip — Jalan Alor's night market, covered elsewhere on this site, is still one of my favorite food experiences anywhere.
